Eighty-Percent of Commercial Buildings without Fiber

In Uncategorized on April 30, 2009 by Nate Rosenberg

Business Fiber 2008Vertical Systems Group released the latest news on the fiber gap for businesses this week. Eighty-percent of commercial buildings still do not have access to fiber:

Fiber penetration now extends to 19.1% of U.S. commercial buildings with twenty or more employees, up from 10.9% in 2004.  All remaining locations comprise the “Fiber Gap”, or business locations with no fiber access facilities.  Optical fiber is a key enabler for the delivery of broadband network services at speeds up to Gigabit rates, including Business Ethernet, IP VPNs, VoIP and IP video.

One of the things that makes 1Velocity unique is that we can deliver up to 1 Gbps Ethernet to the other 80% of buildings without fiber.
